Opposition creates ruckus in Odisha Assembly over delay in Lokayukta appointment

Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of Odisha Assembly witnessed repeated adjournments on Monday as Opposition Congress members created ruckus over delay in appointment of Lokayukta.

Congress legislators raised the issue and created ruckus in the house soon after the Question Hour ended. Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra raised the Lokayutka issue and slammed the BJD Government for not appointing a Lokayukta for the last four years since the death of Lokpal PK Patra in 2013 while the old Odisha Lokpal and Lokayukta Act is still in force and demanded a reply from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“Though the Odisha government had passed the Lokayukta law four years back and the Chief Minister had stated that it would be executed in six months still there has been a delay in the Lokayukta appointment,” said Mishra.

Apart from Congress, BJP members also demanded the Chief Minister’s ruling on the Lokayukta appointment.

Following the din Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat first adjourned the House from 11.43 to 12.30 pm on its fifth working day as Opposition Congress members kept up demanding appointment of Lokayukta at the earliest. When the House reassembled at 12.30 pm, Congress members also raised a din forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House again till 3 pm.
