Operation to capture leopard underway; Old Airport Road closed


Bhubaneswar: A special team of forest department and CISF officials have launched a massive operation to capture the leopard which was spotted near Palaspalli area here on the wee hours today.

The team, led by the city DFO, has begun the operation to catch the leopard. Besides, a tranquiliser team of Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) is also accompanying the team.

The officials have launched the operation in Palaspalli and Bhimatangi areas. Reportedly, the Old Airport Road has been sealed for the operation, as the leopard was spotted in its proximity.

Panic gripped the locals after the big cat was spotted entering commercial establishment premises near the airport on Sunday night. The visuals of the leopard entering the firm’s campus were captured in CCTV cameras.

Later, the forest department officials were alerted about the matter who then launched an operation to tranquilise the big cat. The leopard was again spotted this morning near the ATS tower, following which the operation to capture it was intensified.
