Open debate likely in UNSC on JeM chief’s listing as global terrorist

New Delhi: A resolution will be moved by the US, France and UK to seek a vote on designating JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, latest report said.

According to media reports the vote will be preceded by a debate on the issue. During the debate China will be directly asked about its opposition on Azhar’s listing as a global terrorist.

The three permanent members are believed to be in intense “good faith” discussions with China to arrive at a “compromise” in the issue at the earliest.

A UN Security Council diplomat had already warned China that other members will be forced to take actions in other way if the issue is not resolved amicably.

The three permanent members are working on a ‘compromise’, formula with some changes that China is believed to have suggested to the language of the terrorist designation.
