One killed over political rivalry in Ganjam, another critical


Hinjilicut: One person was killed while another sustained critical injuries after they were attacked by a group of four over political rivalry at Brahmanchai village in Hinjilicut police limits of Ganjam district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bulu Pradhan (31) of Brahmanchai village. Bana Nahak (28) of the same village sustained critical injuries in the clash and undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

According to sources, Bana was on his way back home from his farmland at around 2.30 pm when a group of four people attacked him with weapons. Bulu, who was nearby at that time, rushed to rescue Bana. When Bana collapsed on the ground following the attack, the assailants attacked Bulu. They fled the spot after leaving the duo in a pool of blood.

Some locals rushed the injured duo to Hinjilicut community health centre. They were later shifted to MKCG hospital. However, Bulu succumbed to his injuries.

Hinjilicut inspector-in-charge Prasant Kumar Sahu and other staff reached the village and launched a probe. Two platoons of police have been deployed at the village to thwart further untoward incident.

Notably, two persons were killed and eight sustained critical injuries in a clash during the panchayat election at the village in February 2017.
