Odisha’s NISER conducts country’s first ever Int’l Astronomy Olympiad


Bhubaneswar: The 10th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad kicked off today at city based National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER).

Students from 42 different countries are taking part in the event which will continue till December 18. This is the first ever International Olympiad in this category held in the country.

NISER Director Dr. V Chandrasekhar informed took pride terming this event as a matter of great repute for the state and also for the institute.

The Olympiad is being organised by NISER in collaboration with Government of India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Department of Space, Union HRD, Department of Science and Technology.

The acclaimed talent hunt is like a stepping stone for pro-research students and undergraduates who look to build career in Astrophysics and Astronomy at an international level. It bears lot of importance for young aspiring students of state who look to become scientists, experts in field of space research as it would offer an outreach programme for them.
