Odisha woman dies going to save husband from bullet


Angul: A woman was killed trying to save her husband during a firing at Raida village under Thakurgarh police limits in Odisha’s Angul district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ratani Pradhan, wife of Anam Pradhan, who also sustained bullet injuries in the attack and was hospitalised.

The deceased woman’s brother-in-law has filed a complaint at Thakurgarh Police Station in this connection.

As per a complaint, one Rabindra Bhoi of the village resorted to a verbal abuse with the couple over a petty issue. Later, it turned ugly and a heated argument erupted between the two following which Rabindra opened fire three rounds of bullet from a country-made pistol targeting Anam.

Ratani tried to save her husband and was struck with a bullet during the firing.

While the woman died on the spot, Anam sustained bullet injuries on his right leg and was rushed to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

He was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his health condition deteriorated, whose condition is stated to be critical.

Police have seized the body for post-mortem and launched investigation into the incident registering a case. The accused is on run after committing the crime.
