Odisha to use DGPS survey to check illegal mining of minor minerals

Bhubaneswar: In order to curb illegal mining and transportation of minor minerals, the State Government today decided to identify the sources of such minerals in all blocks of the state.

Admitting that illegal mining of minor minerals is still rampant, Odisha Steel and Mines Minister PK Mallick told media that decision has been taken to use Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) survey to identify sources of such minerals across the state by March next year and introducing i3MS system to generate computer generated permit.

Though the DGPS survey has been done in two tehsils so far, rest of the tehsils will be asked to complete the survey by March. Once quantity of the resources is identified, auction process will begin, said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the state government has asked all the district collectors to form squads at the sub-division level to stop illegal mining of minor minerals.
