Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been placed at 14th place in the new Ease of Doing Business rankings, released by the Central government on Tuesday while Andhra Pradesh topped the list.
Telangana has been ranked number two in the list when Haryana and Jharkhand took the third and fourth position in the state rankings. Gujarat was placed at the fifth position.
Odisha was 7th in 2013-14, and the ranking had come down to 11th in 2015-16.
Political blame game has erupted in the state, after Odisha government attributed unsatisfactory feedback from industries to be the cause.
The feedback of the industries on the state government was not good, Industries secretary Sanjib Chopra said answering media questions. “We will examine the reasons of their poor feedback,” he added.
But it has not gone well with the opposition parties. Both BJP and Congress have come down heavily on the state government for its failure to create an industry-friendly atmosphere in the state.
“The state government has failed to provide raw materials and land required by the industries,” BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan said.
Odisha’s ranking will go down further in the coming days due to red-tapism and bureaucratic apathy in the BJD government, he added.
Similarly, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik also blamed the state government for failing in providing basic facilities to the investors.
