Odisha police arrests mother-son duo for theft of Rs 40 lakh
Cuttack: Cuttack Sadar police today arrested a mother-son duo in connection with a theft of Rs 40 lakh from the residence of Dr Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Associate Professor, SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The arrested have been identified as Netramani Patra alias Padma and her son Askhaya Patra from Buguda in Ganjam district.
According to reports, Netramani was working as a domestic help at Dr Bibhuti’s house at Balikuda in Cuttack district.
However, she had managed to thief the key bunch of the wardrobe in which the victim’s family had stacked a huge amount of cash.
At three different occasions, she had theft Rs 40 lakh from the wardrobe and had handed over the same to her son.
Following a complaint filed by the doctor, Sadar police had launched an investigation into the incident in which the doctor’s housemaid was found the thief.
During interrogation, the maid confessed to the theft and said she had handed over the stolen money to her son.
While Askhaya had kept Rs 24.5 lakh at his house, he had deposited 4.40 in his bank account. With the rest of the money, he had bought a gold bracelet, a gold chain and a pair of gold ornament for his mother.
Police seized Rs 31,97,850, a gold chain, a gold bracelet, one pair gold ornament (pala), one Godrej electronic locker and three mobile phone.
