Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided not to allow school and college students in the Independence Day parade on Wednesday.
The decision was taken in the wake of heavy rain and lightning forecast over most parts of the districts across the state by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Home department special secretary Dr Santosh Bala in a letter to the Revenue Divisional Commissioners (RDCs) and the district collectors on Tuesday said that as a precautionary measure the state government has decided not to allow the school and college students across the state to take part in the Independence Day parade.
The special secretary has also asked the RDCs and the collectors to direct the authorities of all educational institutions in the state to ensure that their students would not take part in the parade. Besides, no cultural show and gymnastic display will be organized at the parade ground on the occasion, he pointed out.
He, however, said that only police and the para-military forces would take part in the parade.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while attending a preparatory meeting on preparedness for heavy rainfall at the Secretariat asked authorities to ensure safety of children during the Independence Day celebrations.
