Odisha govt hints to abolish Block Grant System


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has decided to abolish the Block Grant System, against which the teachers and lecturers have been demonstrating here at the Lower PMG square for the past 17 days, said School and Mass Education Minister, Badri Narayan Patra said today.

The government has discussed in this regard with the agitating teachers. “The discussion has reached final stage and at any moment the decision may be declared”, the minister added.

The grant-in-aid system will be implemented soon after the abolition of block grant rule, he concluded.

However, the agitating teachers have denied to take the ministers words into believe. They are no way ready to call off the strike on verbal assurance and discussions.

“We have been cheated earlier by going though verbal promises of the state government. This time we want issue of notification in this regard, otherwise we won’t call off our strike till our demands are not fulfilled,” said a agitating teacher.
