Odisha farmers join Rashtriya Kisan Mahasammelan in New Delhi under NKS banner
New Delhi: In a bid to press their demands, thousands of farmers from Odisha today joined the Rashtriya Kisan Mahasammelan at Sansad Marg in New Delhi.
Around 3000 farmers from Odisha under the banner of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) attended the national convention of the farmers to press their long-standing demands – price (a hike in minimum support price), prestige and pension, which was inaugurated by noted social activist Anna Hazare.
Over 10,000 farmers from 22 states also attended the Kisan Mahasammelan.
NKS advisor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and convener Akshay Kumar were leading Odisha farmers at the convention.
A memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be submitted by the farmers’ body with a demand to resolve issues of farmers within six months.
The farmers have warned to intensify the agitation if their demands are not addressed by the Central government.
