Odisha court awards life term to seven in a murder case
Boudh: Hearing a five year back murder case, an Odisha court today convicted seven persons and awarded life imprisonment to all.
According to reports, Justice Suchismita Mishra of Boudh District Sessions Court today held seven persons guilty for the murder of ex-sarpanch of Jogindrapur panchayat under Kantamal block in the district that had taken place five years back on September 16 in 2012.
The judge awarded all the convicts life term and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on each.
According to reports, following past enmity, a group of 14 persons had brutally attacked Surendra Pradhan, Birakishore Pradhan, Satya Hota, Dilip Pradhan of Ratakhandi village under Manamunda police limits.
Birakishore Pradhan, the ex-sarpanch of Jogindrapur panchayat had died on his way to a hospital in the attack while three others survived.
Injured Surendra Pradhan had filed a case in this connection at Manamunda police station. Police filed a case (no 110 (7)/12) and made charge sheet against 16 persons.
Later, the case came to the District Sessions Court where statements of 18 witnesses were recorded during the hearing of the case.
Following the statement of the witnesses, Justice Suchismita Mishra convicted seven persons for the crime and awarded life term to them.
The Justice also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each one of the convicts, failing which they have to serve another one year in jail.
Public prosecutor Dhurina Dehuri was proceeding the case.
