Bhubaneswar: In a relief for the agitating block grant teachers of Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced abolition of block grant system in school and colleges of the state.
After meeting with the agitating teachers’ body, Naveen said that his government had decided to assist financial support to education institutions in the state by introducing block grant policy since 2004. The government today decided to replace the block grant system with grant-in-aid.
“My government has decided to abolish the block grant system and replace it with grant-in-aid,” the CM quoted before media.”
The teachers will get an overall benefit following the institutional policy of the state, he added.
Meanwhile, the agitating teachers’ body has called off their strike following Naveen’s announcement.
However, the body has put a condition to fulfil the other demands within two months.
The development in this regard just came a day after Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra told media that the CM has agreed on the principle to abolish the block grant system as the teachers’ stir entered in the 17th day today.
