Odisha Cabinet approves creation of Legislative Council


Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Odisha Cabinet approved the proposal for the creation of the Odisha Legislative Council during a meeting on Friday.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal for further necessary legislation (Resolution) by the Odisha Legislative Assembly and approval of Parliament of India under Article 169 of the Constitution of India. The Cabinet approved a total of eight proposals today.

The Cabinet has approved the proposal for amendment of rule-4(1) of the Odisha Exercise Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Group-A Officers) Rules, 2002.

The proposal for amendment of the relevant subjects appearing under the Serial No III—Finance Department, in the First Schedule and the relevant Sub-Rule under Second Schedule of the Odisha Government Rules of Business also got the cabinet approval.

Similarly, the Cabinet also approved the newly framed Odisha Medical and Health Services (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2018 in supersession of Odisha Medical and Health Services Rules, 2017 as proposed by Health and Family Welfare Department.

In order to safeguard the interest and better administration and management of Hindu Religious Institutions in the state, the cabinet has decided to amend the Odisha Hindu Religious Endowments Act, 1951 by providing for government control at the stage of framing of Schemes as well as by nominating government officers as Trustees.

Moreover, the Cabinet also approved the modification of interest subvention scheme ‘Kalinga Sikhya Sathi Yojana’. It has been decided that the scheme will be applicable to all course being pursued in all educational institutions for which central scheme to provide interest subsidy is applicable.
