Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly begun with Governor SC Jamir’s address on the last day of his tenure today. Jamir received Guard of Honour on the premises of Odisha Assembly.
Soon after the Governor started his speech over farmers’ issues, Congress legislators led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra walked out of the House.
Mishra alleged that the State Government has neglected the ongoing farmers’ plight.
Earlier on the day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, MInisters and legislators of all parties condoled the death of former Ministers Benudhar Baliarsingh, Frieda Toppo and other former members of the State assembly who passed away recently.
Notably, the budget session will continue till May 5 in two phases: the first part will continue from March 20 to March 31 and the second from April 11 to May 5.
The state’s annual budget for 2018-19 fiscal will be tabled by Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera on March 23.
Meanwhile, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House till Wednesday.
