Odisha achieves 19% growth in revenue collection till May

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has recorded nearly 19 percent growth in revenue collection till May of 2019-20 financial year, according to reports.

This was revealed at the secretaries level meet held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at Odisha Secretariat here on Wednesday. The revenue collection by the end of May 2018 was Rs 5466 crore. This has increased to Rs 6505 crore till May this year.

The meeting revealed that the tax and non-tax collections are respectively Rs 4257 and Rs 2247 crore. Thus, the increase is 9.25 and 43.21 percent respectively.

The meeting has further revealed that the highest 51.18 percent royalty was registered in the steel and mines department in the non-tax sector. The water resources department has registered 16.22 percent collection from the industries.

The secretaries level meeting also revealed that the budgetary expenditure in the planning sector by the end of May is Rs 8746 crore which is 19 percent less than the previous year.

During the meeting, Padhi has directed the officials of the concerned departments to expedite work earmarked for June and July. He has also directed the officials to review the progress of work in each month to efficiently manage the targets.

The Chief Secretary has directed the departmental heads to prepare the annual action plan on a priority basis by June 17. The Development Commissioner Asit Kumar Tripathy has said in order to achieve continuous growth and progress at national level, 306 yardsticks have been identified.

These benchmarks have been identified in 18 departments, he said. He advised the officials to identify the targets meant for Odisha and prepare a comprehensive plan of action to be initiated for implementation of the programmes.

Ashok Kumar Meena, Finance Secretary, informed the meeting that the budget for 2019-20 fiscal will be presented on June 28. Meena, during the meeting, had asked the officials of the concerned departments to apprise the finance department of their novel plans on different sectors.

He said the finance department should also be informed of how the new initiatives will be implemented.

All the departments, autonomous organizations and public sectors have been advised to carry on purchase through gem portal. The GeM portal unit will provide necessary training and assistance for this purpose. As many as 918 organizations and departments have been registered with the portal so far.
