Bhanjanagar: A notorious criminal, the prime accused in series bomb blasts in Bhanjanagar market on February 7, has been nabbed by the police after he sustained bullet injuries in police firing.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Imran. As many as three police personnel also sustained injuries during the encounter.
According to reports, the exchange of fire took place at around 6 am when the police intercepted Imran and his associate who were travelling in a motorcycle. On seeing the police the criminals hurled bombs in a bid to escape from the spot.
Subsequently, there was a chasing scene when the police party followed them and opened fire in retaliation. Imran sustained bullet injuries on both legs and was nabbed. However, his accomplice managed to escape.
The accused Imran was then admitted to the Bhanjanagar CHC for first aid. Later, he was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Reportedly, the police have seized a motorcycle and a 9mm pistol from Imran’s possession.
