Noted Odia writer Banaja Devi to receive Sarala Award


Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia poet and short story writer, Banaja Devi will be honoured with the 38th edition of prestigious Sarala Puraskar for her short story compilation ‘Kathapua’.

This has been announced by the Sarala Puraskar Committee at a meeting held here on Friday evening. She will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh along with a citation.

Two more notable Odia personalities, Pandit Dr Ghasiram Mishra will be awarded ‘Ila Panda Sangeet Samman’ and Dr Durga Prasad Das will receive ‘Ila Panda Chitrakala Samman’ for their valuable contribution in the field of music and art respectively. They will also receive a cash award of Rs 1.5 lakh each along with citations.

A special function will be held on October 26 to felicitate Banaja Devi along with other awardees.
