I am not on govt’s side on Mahanadi row, Damodar Rout says
Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and Excise Minister Damodar Rout on Thursday said he is not on the government’s side as far as Mahanadi row is concerned.
I have not become a minister on someone else’s power but due to likeness and support of my people. I do not back down from telling what is correct and right. I do not support the government on the river row.
During a debate on “Mahanadi: Jibanaru Jahara”, organised by Sanjog foundation here, Rout said Modi government should try to solve the river row just like the same way as Atal Bihari Bajpayee did in the case of Krishna and Kauveri.
Why is the Centre silent on the Mahanadi water row? Rout questioned.
Refuting any such motive by the BJP led Union Government state party general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said Centre has been sensitive in this issue and is looking towards the interests of the state.
Since the issue is quite vital it needs vociferous attempts from both state and Centre. While the Union has been doing to solve the row such dedicated attempts are not being seen from state. The state government should have been more cautious about the development years ago so that such situation should not have occurred.
