Nor’wester wreaks havoc in Baripada
Baripada: Nor’wester rains wreaked havoc in Baripada Town of Mayurbhanj district leaving behind a trail of destruction on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the rains accompanied by gusty wind and lightning hit the town at around 3 pm and continued for 2 hours till evening.
Many trees were uprooted in Madhuban-Baruni road, Satya Sai Chhak, Hospital road, Maa Ambika Temple road, Balgadia road, Palabani and Station Bazaar area, which comes under Baripada Municipality.
Following this, vehicular communication and electricity connections were badly hit the town area. While the people were reeling under the immense heat wave in the afternoon hours due to an undeclared power cut, the disruption of electricity due to nor’wester has added to their misery. The water supply has also been affected in the Baripada town, sources added.
Furthermore, it was learnt that some local woman staged a road blockade for two hours by putting pots on the road near Devendrapur along the Baripada-Chitrada road demanding immediate restoration of water supply.
