Nine dead, 14 hurt in Bhilai gas pipeline blast
Bhilai: Nine persons including two Deputy General Managers were killed while 14 others sustained critical burn injuries after a gas pipeline near coke oven section blasted in Bhilai Steel Plant of Chattisgarh’s Durg on Tuesday. The initial casualty was six.
Reportedly, all the injured persons were rushed to the nearby hospital in critical condition.
According to sources, the explosion took place in the morning when a gas pipeline near coke oven section went off in the plant. On being informed, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation.
The fire service personnel douse the blaze and rescued the injured persons.
The Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is the country’s first and main producer of steel rails, as well as a major producer of wide steel plates and other steel products.
