Newly married woman killed by in-laws, body found in sack in Kendrapara
Kendrapara: The body of newly married dalit woman was found in a sack near the bank of Luna River at Tubihuda village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits on Wednesday. The body was wrapped in a cloth and the woman’s limbs were tied up.
The deceased has been identified as Mamina Mallick (24) of Gadama village in Jagatsinghpur district. It is suspected that she was thrashed and strangulated to death by her in-laws. After killing her, they tried to dump the body near the river bank in a hurry as they were spotted carrying it by some local fishermen.
Reportedly, Prakash Rout of Tubihuda village and Mamina had tied the knot in a temple on March 1 this year against the wishes of their parents. They were working together in a private company in New Delhi. Prakash’s family was against the inter-caste wedding as Mamina was a Dalit, said Kendrapara SP, Dayanidhi Gochayat.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section- 3 of SC and ST Atrocity (Prevention) Act against Prakash, his father Bhaskar, mother Kamali and sister Nalini Rout. While Mamina’s in-laws have been arrested, her husband is absconding. The body has been sent for postmortem and police have launched a search operation to trace out Prakash.
