Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Monday has decided to adopt an Excise Policy 2017-18 during the current year in a bid to implement the Supreme Court’s order for removing all liquor shops beyond 500 metres from National highways. The State Excise Minister Dr Damodar Rout informed this yesterday.
According to the policy, draught beer will be sold in six major cities including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela to distract youngsters from consuming strong alcoholic beverages.
The new policy has provisions to open model premium liquor shops at the city airport, shopping malls and 3-star hotels and would discourage the illegal sale of liquor in the state.
Apart from this, the Minister also said, it has been made mandatory for liquor outlets to provide cash memo to the liquor purchasing customers and the outlets will have to display fix rate charts of Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) of several brands available at their counters.
