Naveen writes to Gadkari to widen Mahanadi mouth
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to Shipping, Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari demanding widening of the Mahanadi river mouth to ease fishing along the Paradip Fishing Harbour.
The CM has requested the minister to direct the Paradip Port Trust authorities to deepen the river mouth and navigation channel which is being buried due to the Paradip Port protection wall of Bangalore based Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries. This will make fishing here secure for fishermen, Naveen wrote.
Paradip port is a major fishing site and it has 640 trawlers and 100 FRP boat for fishermen. Over 30,000 people are directly and indirectly employed in fishing here, wrote the CM.
