Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for early establishment of permanent benches of the Orissa High Court in western and southern regions of the state.
“There is adequate justification for establishment of permanent Benches of Orissa High Court in the Western and Southern parts of Odisha and the criteria laid down by Justice Jaswant Singh Commission are also substantially met. The Parliament has the prerogative to establish such Benches in exercise of its powers under Entry-78 of the Union List,” Patnaik said in a letter to the union minister.
In the letter, Patnaik also mentioned that there has been persistent demand from the people of these regions for setting up permanent benches of the High Court to mitigate the inconvenience faced by the litigants.
Besides, Patnaik also assured the Union Minister that the State Government will provide adequate resources for establishment of the benches in these regions of Odisha.
Patnaik concluded urging for an early decision regarding the same by the Government of India to fulfill the aspirations of the people of these regions.
