Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday felicitated BDA, BMC, OMC, IDCO, OTDC, sports department, tourism department, works department, Hockey India, Handloom and Handicraft department and Commissionerate Police for the grand success of the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “We could do it. We did it with all the style and substance. We were at the focus of global sporting lenses for more than a fortnight.”
Odisha got global recognition as a sports destination due to all your efforts. I know how much hard work each one of you has put into to make it a huge success. It is the success of Team Odisha, the finest example of teamwork,” he added.
He further said that all the teams, officials, and spectators all went back with happy memories.
“On behalf of the people of Odisha, let me thank each one of you for your sincere hard work and dedication,” he maintained.
The CM further said, “We will make Odisha the sports capital of India and provide great opportunities for our youth.”
Notably, the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup was held from 28 November to 16 December 2018 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Belgium won the tournament for the first time after defeating the Netherlands 3–2 in the final on a penalty shoot-out after a 0–0 draw.
