Ganjam: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated Gopalpur Port to the people of Odisha as well as the nation during his visit to Ganjam district on Thursday.
Addressing a huge gathering, the Chief Minister said, “With an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, the newly-inaugurated port has three berths with a cargo handling capacity of 20 MMTPA. Gopalpur Port is expanding its capacity to 25 MT all-weather operations in this phase with an overall vision of 55MT by 2025.”
“Gopalpur Port is a new milestone in the maritime history of Odisha as the port will boost maritime trade and commerce. It will create employment opportunities for 8,000 youths,” Patnaik added.
During the visit, the Odisha CM also laid the foundation stone for development and expansion of Harbhangi irrigation project to be built at a cost of Rs 172 crore.
The other projects for which foundations were laid are the development of Karamanganala road in Hinjili block, bridge over Baghua river connecting Brahmanachai-Bolsara road, 11 piped water projects in Sheragad and Hinjili blocks and 13 piped water projects at Dharakote and Sanakhemundi blocks.
Patnaik will visit Gajapati district at 3 pm today to inaugurate and lay the foundation of projects worth Rs 631.24 crore. The projects include a mega piped water supply projects worth Rs 404 crore for Kasinagar, Gumma and Mohana blocks in the district.
