Naveen announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of two killed in Nayagarh


Nayagarh: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the deaths of two persons in an attack by a mentally-challenged person in Odagaon of Nayagarh district today.

Trilochan Sethi and Madani Pradhan were killed after the mentally unsound man went berserk at Odagaon bazaar today morning.

Terming the incident unfortunate, the CM conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family and announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the next of the kin of the deceased.

Patnaik also announced free medical treatment to those injured in the attack by the mentally-challenged person.

According to sources, the mentally unsound man started attacking locals with stick and stones, killing one person on the spot. Another woman who sustained critical injuries in the attack succumbed to her wounds in a hospital.

On being informed, Odagaon police station IIC and a constable reached the spot to control the accused, but in vain as the man hurled stones at the officials leaving them injured.

Later, Sharankul SDPO along with a team reached the spot and launched an operation to arrest the accused.
