Ganjam: Vehicular movement has been disrupted on National Highway-16 today morning after members of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NKSS) blocked the road demanding price, prestige and pension for the farmers of Odisha.
Commuters faced a harrowing time as scores of NKSS activists blocked the NH-16 and also halted the goods-laden truck travelling on the busy NH.
According to sources, the activists demanded a cash amount of Rs 5,000 as pension to each farmer above the age of 60 and scheduled price of Rs 1950 per paddy sack.
On being informed police along with Khalikote Tehsildar Chittaranjan Mahanta reached the spot in order to pacify the farmers.
Reportedly, the agitators have withdrawn their protest after talks with the Tehsildar and vehicular movement in the NH-16 has resumed, sources said.
