Murder accuse flees police custody on way to court


Bhanjanagar: A murder accused, identified as Manoj Nahak escaped from the police custody while he was being taken to the Bhanjanagar court on Friday.

Nahak, is an accused in the murder of Sudura Swain of Balipadar under Buguda police limits. Another accused Kanhu Charan Swain, who happens to be deceased Sudura’s cousin has also been arrested in this connection.

According to police, Nahak and Kanhu, accompanied by two constables were being taken to the court from Buguda police station in an auto rickshaw, when Nahak managed to flee the spot.

Sources said, though Nahak was cuffed he gave a slip to the police.

Reportedly, the police had issued a high alert in the area and a manhunt is on to nab the absconding murder accused.

As per reports, the duo was arrested by the police on Thursday from Jagannathprasad area in connection with the murder of Sudura Swain on Wednesday.

Nahak had attempted to flee from the police custody at the time of his arrest but was nabbed immediately.
