‘Mr Kanheiya’ poster row: Papu Pom Pom clarifies, DCP orders probe

Bhubaneswar: In a twist to the poster row of Papu Pom Pom’s upcoming movie ‘Mr Kanheiya’, the actor on Sunday claimed that the picture was fabricated.

Giving clarification regarding the poster which triggered controversy for disrespecting women, the comedian in a video claimed that the pictures in the poster were morphed.

He said the movie was shot at a college and someone might have clicked a photograph of a scene.

He also added that the movie’s poster is neither his or the production’s idea. Hence they did not have any knowledge about the same.

Following his clumsy explanation, Papu also urged the viewers not to judge him on the basis of the fabricated pictures instead try to nab the person responsible for the creation of the impractical picture.

On the other hand, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo cleared the air and stated that a case regarding the matter has been registered. While he assured of a detailed investigation, he also added that a notice will soon be served to the production house.

A probe to ascertain the source of the poster and whether the production house and the crew at the movie set are responsible for the act is underway, sources said.

Meanwhile, the production house has also issued a statement over the controversy. “We came to know that a viral post on social media is misleading everyone regarding our upcoming movie Mr Kanheiya. We hereby clarify that the said post has not been published by us. The viral post has no relevance to the story of our movie,” the production house said in a statement.

Notably, the poster featuring Papu controlling a bunch of young women by holding a leash to the ropes tied around their necks surfaced on the internet yesterday.

The incident invited strong criticisms from people. Social activist Linkan Subudhi also a complaint at Mahila Police Station here demanding action against the actor, producer and director of the movie.
