Puri: An outfit in Puri on Tuesday lodged a complaint at Singhadwar police station against flying of a helicopter over Sun Temple of Konark and Lord Jagannath Temple by suspended Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda in violation of the law.

The outfit named Voice of Common Man lodged a written complaint regarding flying of helicopter (Robinson-R44/VT BDP) over Sun Temple of Konark, Balukhanda Reserve Sanctuary and Lord Jagannath Temple on September 15.

“We came to know that two persons named Abhijit Iyer Mitra and Aarti Tikoo Singh were in that craft and the pilot was former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda. The chopper flew very low in height in all mention places. Iyer recorded videos of Sun Temple and Lord Jagannath Temple which he later uploaded in the social media. In his post, Iyer criticised the state government,” the association stated in their complaint.

“Both the Hindu shrines come under ASI and no still/video photography is allowed to record without ASI permission which violates Hindu old Monuments Act, 1904. Again this craft crossed over Balukhanda Reserve Sanctuary which violates Forest Act too,” the association members alleged in the complaint.

“The thousand years old Hindu shrine comes under terrorist threat many times. For the last four years we are demanding for ‘No Flying Zone’ over this temple. Iyer’s video photography not only violates all law of the country, but it is a serious threat to the security of Jagannath Temple. It hurts millions devotes of Lord Jagannath,” the association members said.

They appealed to the IIC of Singhadwar police station to take note of the sensitive issue and arrest the pilot and the co-passengers immediately for violating the law.
