Madurai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Centre’s Modicare health insurance scheme has benefited over 89,000 people in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a public rally here after laying down foundation stone for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here Modi said 1.57 crore people are under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana
The Prime Minister said a sum of Rs 200 crore has been authorized towards the treatment expenditure of the people covered under the scheme.
According to reports the insurance scheme provides cover for up to Rs 500,000 and covers over 10 crore families.
He said more than 30 per cent additional medical seats have been added during the past four-and-half years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre.
Modi said the Centre was committed to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025 and complimented Tamil Nadu government for upgrading the TB hospital in Chennai.
