Modi felicitates Odisha boy at FIFA World Cup ground
New Delhi: Odisha boy, Babul Sandil, was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here before the beginning of India’s historic match in FIFA Under-17 World Cup against the USA on Friday.
He was among 11 players in the ‘Mission 11 Million’ programme for boosting football among school children and the only participant from Odisha to receive the World Cup Ball from the Prime Minister.
The class X student at IRC Village Boys’ High School in Bhubaneswar and his sports teacher Ashok Patro were part of the memorable moment.
Born to father Lakhman Sandil and mother Gita Sandil, Babul created his own identity after participating in the Mission 11 Million programme, an initiative by the Centre to polularise and promote football by taking the game to 12,000 schools in 37 cities across India.
