Mumbai: Akshay Kumar and John Abraham clashed at the box office as their films Mission Mangal and Batla House hit the theatres this Friday.
The films gave each other a tough time as it was a festive release (Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan).
As per the Box Office India report, Mission Mangal has minted Rs 26 crore on its first day. Mission Mangal is the highest opener for an Akshay Kumar film till date. The Jagan Shakti directed film also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menon and Kirti Kulhari in lead roles
The film is loosely based on scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation, who made India’s Mars Mission successful in its maiden attempt itself.
Mission Mangal witnessed massive occupancy at the theatres on Thursday. The film enjoyed an occupancy of around 65 per cent in theatres across the country, registering a big first-day box office collection at the domestic market.
As per the early estimates, Batla House has collected Rs 14 crore (approx) on its first day.
The John Abraham has been directed by Nikhil Advani and the plot revolved around the 2008 encounter with alleged terrorists that happened in Batla House in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. John is seen playing the role of ACP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who was a crucial figure in the Delhi Police’s special cell.
