Jajpur: Police rescued a newborn baby last night from Naparda village under Panikoili police limits who had gone missing minutes after his birth at Jajpur Road Community Health Centre (CHC) on December 5.
The baby has been admitted to the Jajpur Road CHC for health check-up following his rescue.
Meanwhile, officials of district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) have reached the hospital and taken the child into their custody.
Two women including local ASHA worker have been detained in connection with the incident.
After an investigation of 11 days Jajpur Road Police got a tip-off on the whereabouts of the baby on Saturday. A police team led by IIC Chinmayee Sahoo raided a house in Naparda village and rescued the baby.
According to reports, an unwed mother had delivered a male newborn at Jajpur hospital on December 5.
Later, the baby went missing from the hospital and it was alleged that newborn was sold off by his mother to one Dhaneswar Mallick and Annapurna Mallick.
The hospital authorities had lodged a complaint at Jajpur Road Police Station following missing of the baby. After a preliminary investigation it came to notice that the mother had got admission in the CHC under a fake identity due to her unwed status.
