Mining Racket Busted In Keonjhar, 8 Held

Keonjhar: Police have busted a mining racket with the arrest of eight persons in connection with manganese ore theft from the forests near Kata Sahi under Rugudi Police limits here on Wednesday.

Acting on reliable inputs, a police team conducted a raid in the area this morning and intercepted two trucks smuggling the raw materials.

The ore-laden vehicles didn’t stop at the check-point. Police immediately chased them and seized both the trucks.

Two trucks, one bolero, one motorcycle, eight mobile phones and Rs 1 lakh cash have been seized from the possession of the accused persons, sources said.

All the vehicles used in the illegal transport of manganese, are registered in West Bengal. It suspected that the arrested persons used to illegally unearth manganese ore from the forest areas and smuggle it to the neighbouring states, added sources.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is underway.
