Maoists shoot at surrendered carder in Odisha


Malkangiri: In yet another incident of Maoist brutality, a group of armed red rebels barged into the house of a tribal youth and opened fire at him late on Sunday night under Padia police limits in Malkangiri district.

According to reports, about 10 armed Maoists barged into the house of Mangudu Wanjami (45) at Silakota village late last night and accused him of passing information to the police.

Later, they opened fire at him and fled the spot. A bullet pierced his right thigh, following which he collapsed.

The villagers rushed him to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Silakota and later, he was shifted to the district headquarters hospital.

Police said Mangulu who had joined the Maoist outfit some years ago, had surrendered before the police four years ago.

Security personnel have intensified combing operation in the area after the incident to track down the red rebels.
