Jeypore: A former sarpanch was killed in Odisha allegedly by Maoists on Sunday. The incident took place at Dandabadi village under Boipariguda block in Koraput district.
The deceased has been identified as the former sarpanch of Ramagiri Panchayatm Anand Nayak.
According to reports, a group of 10-12 Naxals came in civil dress and shot at Nayak at around 2 pm when he was going to a local market and fled the spot.
He sustained bullet injuries on his head and belly. Critically injured Nayak was immediately rushed to a local public health centre in an ambulance. Later, he was shifted to Jeypore hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police have launched a probe into the incident based on the statements of some local residents.
