Maoist posters opposing Polavaram project found in Malkangiri


Malkangiri: Maoists posters bearing the name of Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam Border (MKVB) division were found at different places under Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district on Friday.

According to sources, the extremists have put up the posters in Gunthabeda, Kurumanur and Dorabeda villages protesting against the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh.

Through the posters, the Maoists said that they wanted the withdrawal of the project as it would not benefit the locals. Besides, they have also warned the Grama Rakshis (village guards) employed at various police stations in the district to quit their jobs.

The posters have been seized from different places and the police have tightened the security in the area.
