Man hacked to death in Paradeep; accused nabbed from Cuttack

Barang: Police today arrested an absconding accused who has been charged with killing a slum-dweller on September 11 under the influence of alcohol in Tarinigada of Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur district.

After a detailed probe and days of tracking, police today nabbed the accused person, identified as Subhranshu Shekhar Sarangi alias Raja, from Panchupal village under Barang Tehsil in Cuttack district.

According to sources, the brutal murder took place at around 11: 45 pm on September 11. Sarangi got inebriated that night took up a verbal duel with one Mantu Mondal.

In a fit of rage, Raja chased Mondal with a grass cutting knife and attacked him with the sharp weapon repeatedly resulting in his death on the spot.

On being informed, cops reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Later, the body was identified by the deceased’s wife and it was obtained that Mondal was living in Chudang slum under Chandaka police limits in Cuttack district.

However, Raja was on the run since then. But the police today tracked him down and arrested him from Panchupal village. While the actual reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, further probe into the incident is underway, said the police.
