Man detained on suspicion of Maoist, identified as a labourer: IG Soumendra Priyadarshi

Khurda: A man who was detained on suspicion of Maoist has no links with the rebel organisation and has been identified as a labourer in a brick kiln in Andhra Pradesh, informed Soumendra Priyadarshi Inspector General (IG) Central Range.

The suspect has been identified as Suresh Pahanria (20) of Boden block in Nuapada district.

“During interrogation, it was learnt that Suresh along with three other workers fled from the neighbouring state as they were under debt and had taken shelter in the Gajamundia forest since then,” said IG Priyadarshi. A search operation to find the other two labourers hiding in the forest is on, he added.

Earlier in the day, a joint team of Odisha police and Special Operation Group (SOG) launched a search operation in Gajamundia forest near Deuli village in Khurda district following the detention of Suresh on the suspicion of being a Maoist.

On Thursday afternoon, locals detained Suresh on the suspicion of having a connection with the red rebels while the latter was purchasing an excessive amount of groceries. Later they handed him over to the police.
