Mamata meets MPs arrested in scam


Bhubaneswar: Mamata Banerjee, TMC supremo and West Bengal chief minister, who is in Odisha met TMC leaders arrested in chit fund scams on Tuesday.

As soon as she landed she headed to Apollo Hospitals to meet her party MPs, Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Paul, arrested in the Rose Valley deposit scams. Both the MPs had cited health issues and are under treatment.

Mamata, along with four members accompanying her, was granted permission by a special CBI court to meet the MPs. During her visit to the ailing party members she found out about their progress in health from the doctors. About the claims of the two TMC leaders being trapped into the scam, she said, “Our party is the third largest recognised by the Election Commission. People will give us justice.”

Paul and Bandyopadhyay have been in custody in Bhubaneswar after they were arrested on December 30, 2016, and January 3, 2017, respectively.
