Mamata Banerjee opposed for Lord Jagannath’s darshan; servitor detained by police

Puri: A servitor of Lord Jagannath temple was detained by the police for allegedly opposing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to have darshan of the deities. The servitor identified as Somanath Khuntia vehemently opposed her entry to the pious shrine as it is said that he is angry with Mamata for allegedly supporting consumption of beef.

Somanath, who is also the secretary of Sri Jagannath Sevayat Sammilani said that in July 2016 Mamata in a statement had said that consumption of beef is nothing wrong, which indicates she consumes beef. So he did not allow her to enter into the temple.

Sources also said that  Khuntia is also an active member of Odisha unit BJP.

He said that non-hindus and people eating beef are not allowed entry into the temple. He said that they will decide whether to allow the Chief Minister or not for darshan of the deities only after she takes a clear stand on the issue.

On the other hand, Jagannath Temple Badagrahi Jagannath Swain Mohapatra said that during the BJP’s national executive meet, many VVIPs and VIPs had darshan of Lord Jagannath. So, Mamata Banarjee should also be allowed entry into the temple

BJP State president Basanta Panda said the Puri temple is open for all Hindus. As such, Mamata Banerjee can also seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
