Bhubaneswar: Make In Odisha Conclave 2018, one of the largest investment summits In India, unveiled Odisha as the new global and domestic destination for the development of smart cities, tourism and sports destinations in the country.
The Conclave apart from focusing on various other areas of development promoted these three key areas of Investment with an aim to place Odisha as next state-of-the-art destination not only for infrastructure development but also for recreational sports and tourism in the country for both domestic and International travelers.
The Conclave organized Interesting and engaging sessions on Smart Cities, Tourism and Sports for Industry leaders, businessmen, entrepreneurs, among others to showcase what all Odisha has to offer in terms of investment.
Addressing the session G. Methl Vathanan, WS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Govt of Odisha said, “Our department has consistently strived to create sustainable development, our efforts have borne Wits and Bhubaneswar has emerged as the no.1 Smart City.” He also mentioned that more smart facilities for citizens like Mo Bus have been rolled out recently.
The technical session moderated by Dr. Krishan Kumar, IAS, Vice Chairman Bhubaneswar Development Authority and MD, Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd, Commissioner, Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation on ‘Building Smart Odisha’ provided a platform to discuss several smart next-generation initiatives to accelerate the digital transformation of cities in Odisha, especially Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
The focus was to envision cities in Odisha with a Smart Urban Mobility Plan ranging from Low Carbon Mobility Plan (LCMP) to reducing congestion by providing various technological interventions. During the session, prominent experts like Dario Hidalgo, Director, Integrated Transport, WRI Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities spoke on shared mobility principles for a liveable city, Dorai Narayanan, a sewage specialist from Malaysia spoke on water 8 sanitation and managing sewerage issues in a smart city.
Sanjay Dutt, Chairman FICCI Real Estate Committee and MD &CEO, Tata Housing made his point by stating that a smarter Odisha would need path-breaking reforms by the state and an Impetus to affordable housing.
The key topics of discussion included Digital Transformation of Cities (Command Control Centre/City Wi-Fi/Surveillance Solutions/E-Governance), Smart Mobility (Smart Parking/Multimodal Intelligent Systems), Adequate Water Supply (24 x 7) Management including wastewater recycling and Affordable Housing-Smart and Affordable Building Solutions.
Naveen Soni, Vice President-External Affairs Toyota Kirloskar addressed the technical session and said an approach towards electrification should be best-suited keeping on mind the national interest.
Dr. P. Sekar, Chairman, Global Smart Cities Panel, Microtech Global Foundation emphasized on Secured Governance for developing a Smart City and explained the concept as a strategy for the govt to get all the basic infrastructure development with a negligible investment by the Govt. It is a concept of developing Techno-Economic Corridors connecting hubs which will act as a growth center for individual sectors.
