Madhya Pradesh journalist murder: Police arrests accused driver


Bhind: The Madhya Pradesh Police arrested a truck driver for running over a journalist investigating illegal sand mining cases on Monday night in Bhind district.

Sandeep Sharma, working for a national TV news channel, had approached the police claiming there was an immediate threat to his life after he had accused a police officer of being involved with the sand mafia. The police officer was transferred after the TV channel aired an audio conversation involving him.

The truck driver Identified as Ranbir Yadav, hails from Gadu Pura village. The truck, with registration number MP 07 HB 4164, belonged to Bhaskar Sharma, a resident of Gwalior.

Reportedly, as per the driver, in order to save a woman’s life, TV journalist Sandeep Sharma was mowed down by his truck. Yadav said, “I was trying to save a woman when I took the turn. I didn’t even see the side glass”. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the matter and interrogating the accused.

The police have formed a Special Investigation Team to look into the journalist’s death. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has promised to take strict action against those responsible. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into Sharma’s death.
