Loot cases in the city soar: 16 lakh looted in 2 days


Bhubaneswar: Despite Commissionerate police’s steps to nab thieves and reduce crime rate in the capital city, there has been increase in number of loot cases registered with the police while crime rate in the city has multiplied in the city substantially.

During the last two days, three major loot cases were registered with the police from different places, including two under Khandagiri Police Station (PS) and one under Sahid Nagar PS.

Khandagiri theft

Two incidents of thefts occurred in Khandagiri area on the night of November 24 and 25. Complaint was lodged in the Khandagiri PS alleging that some miscreants trespassed into the residence of Dr Alok Mishra at Phase-V, Plot-238 of Dumduma area. Mishra lives in the first floor of the building while the ground floor was rented to Sabar Rout. Miscreants had locked Sabar and his family from outside and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh.

Mishra serves as a doctor at Maniabandha hospital while his two sons live in Pune and Phulnakhara in the city, respectively. On Friday evening, Mishra’s wife Nayana was on a visit to their son at Phulnakahra. During wee hours in the night, the miscreants locked Sabar and his family from outside and went to first floor at Mishra’s house. Sabar informed police of not being aware of the incident during the night time. At morning, when Sabar woke up to open his door, the door was locked from outside. The nearby residents came to unlock the door. He immediately informed Nayana about the theft. Nayana arriving at the spot, registered a case under Khandagiri PS and alleged that cash and gold ornaments of worth Rs 5 lakh were looted, including cash of Rs 50,000, two gold necklaces, three gold chains and US dollar amounting to Rs 80,000.

Earlier a theft in the area was conducted on November 24, where a woman of Dumduma Phase-II area alleged that some miscreants trespassed into her ladies corner shop and decamped with garments and other articles worth Rs 70,000.

VSS Nagar theft

Another incident took place at VSS Nagar in the city on Friday, where the miscreants decamped with valuables worth Rs 10 lakh in the early after light hours. House of a travel agency owner, Amiya Gumansingh residing at plot number CL-17 was looted.

Police said, Amiya’s wife locked his house and went out for dropping his daughter at the tuition class. Right after Amiya’s wife leaving the place, some miscreants entered his house by breaking the lock and looted valuables. After half an hour, the neighbours noticed of the door being set open and immediately informed Amiya’s wife. After reaching the spot, his wife lodged a complaint in the Sahid Nagar PS alleging that cash amounting to Rs 1,30,000, gold ornaments and other valuables summing up to 10 lakh was looted.
