Lone Zebra at Nandankanan dies
Bhubaneswar: The lone zebra named as ‘Shankar’ at Nandankanan Zoological Park here was found dead in its enclosure on Sunday night. The male zebra’s body has been sent for a postmortem. The zebra was three and half years old.
“No abnormal symptom or weakness was spotted till yesterday night. The zebra accepted normal feed and movement was also normal. It might have died due to heavy lightning last night. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem by Veterinary College experts”, said a zoo official.
Presently, the zoo has no more zebras to exhibit. The Zoo officials are communicating with other zoological parks to bring a zebra under an animal exchange programme.
Notably, the zebra was brought into Nandankanan from Tel Aviv zoo in Israel on September 14, 2015.
