Deogarh: Teaching at a primary school in Deogarh district was affected as locals here on Wednesday opposed the move of District Education Officer (DEO) for suspension of a school teacher.
Opposing the suspension of one Ghanshyam Behera, a teacher of Samantrapalli Project Primary School under Tilebani block in Deogarh district. scores of locals today locked the gate of the school and sat on dharna.
Following this, the students and teachers remained outside of the school.
According to available information, a lady teacher of the same school had brought allegation against Ghanshyam. Taking note of the report, DEO Pradosh Nayak on September 7 placed the teacher under suspension.
Soon after the villagers learnt the matter, resentment brewed among them. The parents and villagers today reached the school and demanded that the suspension order be revoked. The villagers also slammed the DEO and expressed their disappointment over the decision.
The locals then locked the school gate and sat on Bijayaphuada road disrupting vehicular movent from both the sides.
Meanwhile, Block Chairman Subasini Dehura, Zilla Parishad member Brundabati Bhoi, Samiti member of Kalanda panchayat Mili Nayak, Sarpanch Sakuntala Pradhan, and former Zilla Parishad member Yogesh Chandra Pradhan also supported the protest and joined the agitating villagers.
Later, the protest was withdrawn after the additional district education officer, Sakuntala Tete, assured the villagers to withdraw the suspension within seven days.
